The Puerto Rico Heineken International Regatta (PRHIR), is just around the corner. The event will be held from May 30 to June 1st at the The Yacht Club in Palmas del Mar, Humacao. Two full days of pure competition between local and international sailors in the most widely anticipated event for sailing fans, and organized by Premium beer, Heineken. As in past events, all funds collected will be donated to the local Federación de Vela (Sailing Federation) as part of the ongoing efforts to promote this sport in Puerto Rico.
For the last nine years, the best sailors from the region and all over the world have participated in the PRHIR, one of the most competitive and enjoyable events of its kind in the Caribbean. The 2014 PRHIR is crucially important for the competitors, since it will become a practice for the semifinals for the upcoming Central American Games, to be held in Veracruz, México later in 2014. These semifinals will be held in June. Several of the classes that take part in the regatta have also been competing in the island circuit. Among them the Puerto Rican vessels Smile and Wave, Soca and Lazy Dog, all in the Racing Melges 32 category, and which will be back in Humacao this year to compete for the first place.

As in previous years, any visitors to the The Yacht Club will simultaneously enjoy the Puerto Rico International Dinghy Regatta (light sailing). This is a competition for the Hobie Cat 16, Optimist, Sunfish Open, Laser Radial, Laser Standard and 4.7 categories.
Registrations for the PR International Dinghy Regatta have a $50 fee for Hobie 16. Fees for the Laser, Sunfish and Optimist categories are $35 for registrations before May 17. From May 18-30, registrations are $70 in the Hobie 16 category and $55 for Laser, Sunfish and Optimist. Same-day registrations carry a $90.00 fee for Hobie 16 and $75.00 for Laser, Sunfish and Optimist.
Categories for PRHIR will include: CSA Spinnaker Racing, CSA Racer Cruiser, CSA Performance Cruiser, PHRF Jib & Main, PHRF Cruising, J-24 and IC-24. Registration fee for PRHIR is $150.00 before May 17 for all categories. From May 18-29 registration costs are $250.00 and same-day registrations (May 30) carry a $350.00 fee for all categories.
