With less than three weeks to go until the 42nd edition of the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival at Nanny Cay, a truly international cast is making ready to take centre stage in our beautiful sailing grounds.

The BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival has always attracted sailors from around the world to take part and this year is no exception. Entries from at least 12 different nations will compete and include: Australia, Germany, USA, Netherlands, Sweden, UK, Luxembourg, Canada, Russia, Switzerland, British Virgin Islands and other Caribbean islands. Mark Plaxton’s Melges 32 Team INTAC earns “Most Worthy Performance Overall” for the 2013 St. Maarten Heineken Regatta

The final day of the 33rd annual St. Maarten Heineken Regatta closed in outstanding fashion last evening at the traditional prizegiving ceremony – followed by an evening of world-class musical entertainment, headlined by the Grammy winning Motown legends, The Commodores-on Kim Sha Beach.

The evening’s top prize-the St. Maarten Cup-for the regatta’s Most Worthy Performance Overall went to Mark Plaxton’s Melges 32, Team INTAC, the winner of the event’s highly competitive sport boat class, CSA 8. Plaxton’s team did not lose a race in capturing the division, comprised largely of Melges 32s and 24s.”It’s a real honor to receive this award,” said Plaxton, who is based in the BVI and whose crew included Canadian Olympic sailor Richard Clarke and St. Thomas native Taylor Canfield. That same trio of Canfield, Clarke and Plaxton actually kicked off their highly successful week of sailing off St. Maarten by winning the Budget Marine Match Racing Cup. [Read more…]

Roberto Tomasini Grinover Takes The Lead At 2013 OtterBox® Melges 32 Virgin Islands Sailing Series In Virgin Gorda

The first day of racing at the 2013 OtterBox® Melges 32 Virgin Islands Sailing Series, Event No. 1 in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands was nothing short of stunning on all accounts. The day produced simply gorgeous, sunny and warm island conditions, stellar racing action, and only par excellence on shore from host Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS).

PRO Hank Stuart fired off three races providing ample opportunity for overall leader Roberto Tomasini Grinover aboard Robertissima 1 and tactician Vasco Vascotto to submit an impressive 1-4-1 score line. [Read more…]

Hosted by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS), Virgin Gorda, teams could not possibly be enjoying themselves more.

Heineken Regatta: 150 boats registered, adds race, workshop with Onne van der Wal

With just over three weeks to go before action commences in the 33rd annual edition of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, entries continue to pour in and plans continue to firm up. The 2013 running of the event begins on February 28th with the pre-regatta tune-up series, the Gill Commodore’s Cup. With nearly 150 boats now registered, the fleet continues to grow. And some of the newest additions are some of the biggest, including Tomek Ulatowski’s Swan 100, Varsovie; John Wilson’s IMS 78, Idea; and Jan Rupert’s custom Tripp 75, Blackbird.
